The Team

The Man Data Science group is a global central function which manages and owns the delivery of traditional and alternative data to our investment teams. The group is made of three areas: data scouting and strategy, data science and data science engineering.

The function seeks to unlock the value in data by engaging with investment teams, contribute to building scalable insights and evaluation methods and sourcing new data to increase data discovery for our investment teams. The Role

We are looking for a commercial analyst who will be responsible for proactively managing aspects of the data acquisition and commercial lifecycle to create P&L impacting value for the investment business. The role will involve assisting with data administration, acquisition, contract negotiations/re-negotiations and driving cost savings across the business. As a Commercial Analyst at Man Group, you will be a key interface between research and external data providers.

Responsibilities

Liaising with investment researchers to understand their data requirements
Managing new data trial processes through engagement with internal stakeholders such as research, portfolio managers, compliance and legal
Helping to drive down data costs through initial negotiation and ongoing identification of cost saving opportunities
Helping to direct data research prioritisation of alternative data at Man Group
Management of the ongoing commercial terms including supporting external data audits, price increases and changes to terms and conditions
Supporting the business with any queries around data licensing
Influencing the direction of internal projects where licensing considerations are required
Negotiate with data vendors to obtain the best value terms and conditions for Man Group
Create and manage data reporting, metrics and dashboards whilst streamlining management of data requests
Supporting the Man Data Science team with data quality checks and tool management
Work with senior commercial managers on larger contract negotiations and restructures where required
Internal stakeholder engagement and supplier relationship management
Monitoring, reviewing, and keeping relevant parties informed on the timeliness, cost, revenue, risk, progress, and performance of commercial projects

Skills/Requirements

Good knowledge of Man Group and its investment managers
Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey ideas and technical/commercial information effectively
Strong negotiation, persuasion and judgement skills
Knowledge of financial market data services preferred but not a must
Self-motivated to learn and collaborative team player
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Strong time management, administration and prioritisation skills
Compliance with company policies relating to risk, compliance and confidentiality and knowledge of the appropriate levels of escalation

Alpha Technology is a wholly front-office aligned business unit, responsible for all of the technology in Man Group that drives trading decision making. It numbers approximately 170 engineers who help drive technical innovation across the firm’s investment managers by application of a strong technology platform. It is structured into a number of distinct teams, some cross-cutting building technology and others aligned to an individual investment manager building specific quant or portfolio management tools, or systematic trading systems:

Alpha Platform Technology – responsible for the common front-office platform, comprising Data Engineering, Python Research and Development Infrastructure and Linux High Performance Compute.
Execution Technology – responsible for all Electronic Execution Technology and Trader facing tools.
Risk Technology – responsible for front office Risk Technology and Risk Reporting.
AHL Technology – responsible for technology specific to Man AHL, a quant systematic investment manager.
GLG Technology – responsible for technology specific to Man GLG, a fundamental discretionary investment manager.
Numeric Technology – responsible for technology specific to Man Numeric, a quant systematic investment manager.
GPM Technology - responsible for technology specific to Man GPM, a private markets business focused on real-estate assets.
