Data Governance Analyst

Role Description

This role will be responsible for working with the data governance and data quality teams at AXIS to support the data governance objectives of the organization, including but not limited to defining requirements, managing projects, and coordinating with the business, IT, operations, and other departments to discuss, develop, and implement data solutions that ensure alignment with data governance standards and policies. The role may work with the IT department to set data requirements and ensure consistent presentation, consistent definition, accuracy, and accessibility of data throughout the data lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Prototype, develop, maintain various data acquisition and retrieval flows. Requiring having an in-depth understanding of data systems, and how they relate to use of data by actuaries, finance, and other business users.

• Work with the business and source data experts to ensure data is accurate and fit for purpose, consistently defined and consistently presented; develop and implement control processes as necessary to monitor data accuracy and quality.

• Manage data governance projects related to data dictionaries, reference data management, data lineage, aligned with business priorities.

• Work hands on as necessary to develop prototypes of solutions to validate the requirements and designs. Provide data-related requirements to segment IT and assist with UAT as needed to implement solutions in production environments.

• Work closely with IT, Finance, and Operations to execute a change process that includes all data creators, managers, and users to ensure that data and analytical solutions meet needs across the Insurance and Reinsurance areas. Work with business intelligence resources to ensure that these solutions will also meet requirements for management information / business intelligence needs. Solutions need to balance both ad-hoc needs as well as longer term strategic development.

• Utilize advanced excel functions, VBA, etc. to build solutions to data related issues. Including pulling and inserting data from SQL Server, building reports, etc.

• Work with IT to ensure that data elements, logic, etc. aligns with the needs and expectations of the organization.

• Assist in implementing data governance tools.

• Communicate openly and often with other members of the Data & Analytics team.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

• Prior experience delivering, managing, and defining data for analytics and business intelligence solutions

• Experience in project management.

• Experience with insurance concepts/terminology

• Experience in / with:

o SQL/T-SQL - SQL Server Management Studio, Access

o VBA

o Excel

o Word

o PowerPoint

o SSIS, not required but experience is a plus

o SharePoint, not required but experience is a plus

Salary Range:

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $60K to $75K. The specific salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including the experience of the successful candidate and their work location.
