Job Description

In today’s landscape of economic and geopolitical volatility, increased competition, technology disruption and AI, continual enhancements to Vanguards’ products and services, there is an increased need for innovative strategic risk management capabilities. At Vanguard, we’re standing up a new Risk Intelligence Center (RIC) to proactively spot and manage emerging risks that are lurking around the corner, or discover risks buried across pockets of the organization that when uncovered and aggregated, pose significant threats/opportunities. It’s not very often that you get to enjoy the fun and excitement of a start up in an enterprise of our size. We are seeking curious and courageous minds who are forward-thinking, like to conduct deep research, connect dots, and distill analysis down to points of view that informs senior leadership’s decisions.

You are responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating objective vital risk intelligence to senior leadership to help them successfully act on Vanguard's business strategy, protect Vanguard's critical assets, and steward a risk-smart culture.

In This Role You Will:
1. Help create a new Risk Intelligence Center (RIC) that will design, build, and execute on emerging and cross-cutting frameworks and processes. The RIC is a risk sensing function that integrates risk intelligence information, technology, and expert resources to enhance our ability to connect dots and anticipate potential risks—before they become real problems.
2. Develop a set of clear early-warning lookouts for tracking risk scenarios and trends, whether in a positive or a negative direction, to develop conclusions and make recommendations to relevant parties.
3. Conduct research, perform analysis, and drafts whitepapers /briefs that can be leveraged to create heightened awareness and action on potential threats/opportunities relevant to Vanguard's largest risk areas.
4. Develop effective working relationships and collaborates with key experts across organization, such corporate strategy, government relations, legal/compliance, investment strategy group and divisional CROs to ensure focused, broad, and efficient horizon risk scanning.
5. Apply external source perspectives to understand the existing and forward- looking risk landscape. Includes scanning public source materials, such as the World Economic Forum’s Global Risk Report or governmental sources such as the US National Intelligence Council’s Global Trends and similar strategic risk assessments commissioned by investment management trade organizations; to leverage insights from academic, policy, and media arenas.

What it Takes:

  • Strong critical thinking & analytical skills; ability to leverage data and synthesize large amounts of information into a concise point of view
  • Demonstrated influencing skills; ability to drive collaboration and partnerships, inspire action
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication (both written & verbal), organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred
