Job Description

Senior Engineer for Equity Index Product in FTSE Russell, working directly with research and business teams to create new cloud-based services facilitating the design, creation, analysis, benchmarking and operation of new indices and data products for our clients. We are on the lookout for someone who wants to join a team focused on solutions for complex methodological and data science problems working directly with the Research and Product teams.

The remit for this role is a part of the wider programme to build solutions for a new index platform and help achieve the strategic goals of the FTSE Russell business.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop a quantitative understanding of what the Equities Index Product business is looking to achieve and build solutions that support those outcomes.

  • Collaborate with other Index technology and business teams in Fort Mill to support realization of FTSE Russell outcomes.

  • Write high-quality, maintainable code for new services and methodologies that adheres to engineering best practices and standards.

  • Take part in code reviews and provide meaningful feedback to other developers.

  • Support the modernization and refactoring of capabilities from a database-centric to a distributed architecture on AWS using microservices, lambdas and AI/ML services.

  • Deliver solutions using combinations of ideally Python, but also MS SQL, Postgres, Java and Typescript to support new Equities Product solutions for our customers.

  • Support Index Management teams to meet regulatory requirements, governance, polices and standards.

Minimum Requirements

Technical/ job functional knowledge

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics or Electronics / Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages, ideally Python (numpy, pandas, etc), but any other background will be considered.
  • Experienced with software engineering methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience with the development of complex technical solutions within a fast-paced business.
  • Experience in working on data management and data focused projects.
  • Experience working with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Experience of Business and Technical Analysis, Quality Assurance or DevOps would be great.

Business / Sector expertise

  • Financial services or similar experience preferred but not essential.
