This is a hybrid role, based in G-Research’s office in Dallas.

The role

We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure Development team. Infrastructure Development provide tooling to maintain and develop the smooth running of our IaaS platform and allow other software development teams to leverage it to its full potential.

C# is the team’s primary language of choice, but we pride ourselves on selecting the right tool to fit the job and programming languages and technologies used by the team are continuously evaluated.

As a Software Engineer, you will be able to work with a high degree of autonomy and utilise cutting-edge technologies to produce the best results. With the combination of hard problems to solve and the freedom to design custom solutions, the role is both varied and interesting.

You will take control of the direction of your projects and will regularly interact with Engineers and stake holders within diverse areas of IaaS and the rest of the business. You will have the chance to make an impact by working on solutions used by engineers across the business and to influence the technical direction of the company in the areas specified below.

You will act as a positive example to the members of the Infrastructure Development in Dallas, encouraging them to expand their knowledge, capabilities, approaches to solving complex problems and quality of their code.

Your key responsibilities will include building and maintaining the:

Integrity monitoring and alerting tool for our on-premise cloud platform
Inventory solution used for tracking assets across the company by providing tooling and help with integration to CMDB owners
Automation tooling to automate our substantial server estate
Tooling and services related to the company’s service discovery platform

Who are we looking for?

You will be passionate about software development, particularly in the infrastructure space and be able to demonstrate the following experience:

A proven ability to engineer high-quality software in an OO language, ideally in C#
Hold the team accountable to maintain effective software engineering practises and avoid the creation of unnecessary technical debt
Eager to learn and improve, constantly looking for ways to do better in everyday work
An appreciation of good software architecture, clean code, automated testing
Solid computer science fundamentals and data structures
Experience of agile methodologies and a familiarity with retrospectives and continuous improvement processes
A keen interest in applying continuous delivery principles

Desirable skills and knowledge:

The ability to balance complexity and simplicity in the solutions you devise.
Experience with containers and cloud-native technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus)
Experience with messaging middleware (e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka)
Exposure to CMDB or inventory solutions
Engineers with experience of working in sprint cycles and sizing work items to match this cadence
