Job Description

About Us
As one of the world's largest independent financial advisory groups, we know that it takes a distinct perspective to make a meaningful difference to our clients’ business and wealth.

Rothschild & Co is a global and family-controlled group. We provide M&A, strategy and financing advice, as well as investment and wealth management solutions to large institutions, families, individuals and governments, worldwide.

Having been at the centre of the world's financial markets for more than 200 years we can rely on an unrivalled global network of more than 3,800 talented employees and a track-record of outstanding execution with 60 offices around the world.

Our integrated global network of trusted professionals and decision makers around the world provide in-depth market intelligence, meaning we can be closer to current issues than any other global financial institution in our core markets.

It is this scale, local knowledge and intellectual capital that allow us to provide a distinct perspective and effective long-term solutions for our partners.

Rothschild & Co Wealth Management UK

At Rothschild & Co Wealth Management, we provide a comprehensive range of private wealth services to some of the world’s wealthiest and most successful families, entrepreneurs, foundations and charities. In an environment where short-term thinking often dominates, our long-term perspective to wealth management sets us apart.

Our clients are looking to preserve and grow the real value of their capital. We seek to be sensible custodians, managing our clients' money as if it were our own. Our founding family are one of the few to have successfully preserved their wealth over many generations and we aim to replicate this success for our clients.

Overview of Role

The Investment Analytics function forms a key part of the UK Wealth Management business and has primary responsibility for monitoring investment risk within our discretionary portfolio strategies, maintaining the official track record and related performance analytics for these strategies, and providing regular quantitative analysis to a wide audience within the business. The team is an integral contributor to the UK Investment Risk Committee, to whom it provides monthly reporting covering a wide range of topics that include risk budgeting, scenario analysis and stress testing, factor exposures, and investment performance.

Over time, there has been increased emphasis on streamlining and automating many of our data collection processes and analyses using tools such as Python and R. As our business grows and the complexity of reporting and sources of data increases, the ‘data analyst’ element of this role is going to feature more prominently over time. It is crucial that the team evolves into one that can approach data analysis using the modern techniques available, and we are looking for someone who can support these efforts.

A good fit for this role is someone who is proficient in quantitative analysis, enjoys working with complex data, and is capable of drawing inferences using these skills in combination. Proficiency in Excel is a must, and some experience with a programming language such as Python or R is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate and report various portfolio analytics on a regular basis, ranging from official track record data for our model portfolio strategies, to the forward-looking risk estimates used in our risk budgeting process

  • Provide monthly reporting to the Investment Risk Committee to assist in the ongoing monitoring of investment risk in client portfolios

  • Assist in automating key tasks and processes related to data collection, calculation, and reporting using programming languages such as Python or R

  • Work with the Bloomberg PORT Enterprise factor model and use the system’s native report creation and batching functionality to efficiently produce portfolio analytics

  • Remain up to date with the underlying investment philosophy and strategy and provide meaningful input into the investment process

  • Communicate the nature of investment risk and returns to a broad audience including Senior Management, Client Advisors, and the Portfolio Management Team

  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of investment risk and performance reporting capabilities and provide assurance that the offering is consistent with industry standards and best practice

  • Work with key stakeholders across the business to further develop and enhance team’s reporting and analytical capabilities

  • Provide data and analysis for use in RFPs and client material, and be able to answer a broad range of questions from client advisors related to our discretionary fund offering

Requirements

  • Analytical skills and an ability to handle and interpret complex data

  • University degree with a focus on mathematics or data science

  • Previous experience in a role related to investment performance or risk is preferred

  • Affinity for financial markets, investing and data science

  • Proficiency in Excel/PowerPoint is a must, and some experience programming in Python / R is a plus
