Overview of the team/department:

The Commodities business focuses on trading metals, oil, gas, power, agriculture and soft commodities. We are in the process of building a large team trading European energy, reporting to a senior Portfolio Manager.

Role requirements:

We are seeking a motivated Junior Analyst to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate with a strong analytical background and a passion for the energy sector, particularly natural gas markets within the U.S. This role requires excellent data wrangling and analysis skills, with a proficiency in Python, SQL (including familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio), and Business Intelligence (BI) tools like Spotfire, Tableau, or PowerBI. The candidate should be capable of working effectively in a remote setting with limited oversight, demonstrating both independence and a collaborative spirit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of the U.S. natural gas market, focusing on supply, demand, and regional market dynamics.
  • Utilize Python and SQL to gather, clean, and analyze natural gas market data, including but not limited to weather data, pipeline flow data, and pricing information.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using BI tools (Spotfire/Tableau/PowerBI) to visualize data insights and support decision-making processes.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and economic indicators that may impact the natural gas market.
  • Collaborate with the team to provide actionable market insights and recommendations to clients.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on market analyses and forecasts to internal and external stakeholders.

**Experience Required: **

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Math, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) preferred.
  • Experience with BI tools such as Spotfire, Tableau, or PowerBI.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the U.S. gas market, including basic supply/demand dynamics and regional market intricacies.
  • Knowledge of weather data, natural gas pipeline flow data, and pricing data would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well remotely and under limited supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.
