Job Description
Reporting to the Data Governance Lead for the US Region, the Data Governance Analyst supports ongoing data risk and control activities. The incumbent will be responsible for two critical functions: 1) use independent judgement to identify, anticipate and oversee the mitigation of data risks that could affect strategic business objectives and 2) assess adherence to data policies and standards as well as the adoption of data governance capabilities across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring a variety of skills, be proactive in solving problems, be able to work independently and part of a team, and be comfortable communicating with many different levels of employees across the organization.
** BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION **
The US Data Management Office is responsible for establishing data as a strategic asset for CIBC US Region, further enhancing data governance, building out our data and analytic capabilities, and developing the US Region data management strategy.
Our strategy: Leverage data and analytics to build competitive advantage to enhance our client focus. To facilitate this, we will:
Improve our data quality through focused data governance programs and processes
Use new data technology to increase agility and reduce cost
Become an analytics leader, focusing on continuous advancement
** POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**
Perform data risk and control analysis, including identification, assessment, monitoring and measuring of data risks, by incorporating and understanding information from a variety of sources to recommend a course of action
Escalating, managing and reporting data risk control issues with transparency, as well as effectively creating accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards
Facilitate the identification of data governance compliance gaps and implement strategies to monitor ongoing adoption of and effectiveness of data policies, standards, procedures and controls
Be informed and engaged as a subject matter expert on data-related regulatory requirements, organizational policies and standards, as well as industry best practices
Provide appropriate guidance, education, training, and communication to all relevant stakeholders
** QUALIFICATIONS**
5 years of related work experience in Risk Management, Data Governance or control-related functions
Broad and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of banking operations and data governance concepts (DCAM preferred)
Disciplined self-starter with strong analytical, logical, reasoning and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and accuracy
Confidence to work directly with all levels of management and facilitate meetings
Excellent communication skills - both verbally and written
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and SharePoint
Ability to work flexibly in a team environment
