Job Description

SUMMARY

The Americas Treasury Department of Mizuho Americas is responsible for Asset and Liability Management of the Banking Entities across the Region conducted primarily though the NY Branch and Mizuho Bank (USA).

The NY Branch is a New York state-chartered branch which primarily engages in wholesale commercial banking services, including lending and credit extension, trade finance services, market and foreign exchange transactions, deposit services, cash management and settlement services and a limited number of derivative products.

Mizuho Bank (USA) is an FDIC-insured New York state-chartered wholesale commercial banking institution. BKUSA primarily engages in lending and corporate finance activities, deposit-receiving activities, leasing business, custody and trust business as well as other financial services with a broad range of corporate customers located in the United States.

The Americas Treasury Department provides funding to the NY branch corporate banking business by accessing the money market and by pricing customer deposits. ATD also provides funding for the Head Office U.S. securities holdings by accessing the U.S. repo market.

The candidate will become a core member of the Mizuho Americas Treasury Team and will assist in the Management of the Banking Operation in regards to ALM operations, Cash Flow Hedge operations as well as updating policies, procedures, and other tools to enhance soundness of the Banks financial management. The candidate should be comfortable with interacting with senior management across various legal entities, business lines, and functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for assisting in the daily liquidity position.

  • Responsible for assisting in customer transactions and solving problems related to these customers transactions involving relevant branches, departments and subsidiaries.

  • Responsible for assisting in taking customer type deposits/loans in order to assist the overall management of the ALM Desk’s the daily liquidity position.

  • Assist in the market funding in CD/CP market and Broker CD business.

  • When the need arises will assist in the daily management of the Banks final balance with its Federal Reserve Account.

  • Assist in preparing reports to support the risk management of the Banking Section within Americas Treasury Department.

  • Assist in analysis of ATD’s B/S and liquidity condition.

  • Assist in administrative activities and projects of the Banking Section.

  • Support Associates, Analysts and Trainees to enhance their skills.

  • Report to the Desk Head of the ALM Desk.

This position offers a gateway to other opportunities within Americas Treasury Department. These other opportunities include learning new skill sets through cross training. This cross Training would include the following:

  • Leaning the basics of the US Repo Market and how Mizuho Bank uses the Repo Market for short term secured funding.

  • Interfacing with major Money Market Funds and taking deposits through direct contact with this part of the financial industry.

  • Gaining knowledge and expertise in how a major International Bank manages its daily and term Dollar funding in regards to ALM Liquidity Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-10 years of relevant professional experience in a treasury department, front office function.

  • Ability to quickly absorb financial concepts and apply them to real world situations.

  • Familiarity with Asset Liability Management concepts, including cash flow forecasting, intraday liquidity and liquidity stress testing is ideal.

  • High comfort level with working with data and spreadsheets (e.g. pivot tables and vlookups); experience with VBA and macros also beneficial.

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; finance or accounting degree preferred.

The expected base salary ranges from $76,000 - $130,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
