What we look for

Our Research Associates hold Bachelor’s degrees and typically have track records of outstanding academic performance. For research roles, we look for evidence of thought leadership, intellectual breadth, quantitative rigor and a differentiated approach to solving problems. We look carefully at your academic background as well as any prior work experience for evidence of the following:

  • Excellent broad-based analytical skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong quantitative backgrounds and ability to work with data sets, including engineering, math and science degrees
  • Relentless intellectual curiosity – our signature strength

If you love solving problems and analyzing data, Bernstein could be a great fit for you. We provide an intellectually challenging but supportive environment for careers in investment research and look for team players with exceptional communication skills. These are typically three-to-five-year positions with outstanding growth potential. Our Associate positions have historically been excellent platforms for internal advancement to Senior Research Associate, Vice President, and Senior Analyst roles. We additionally have many Associates go on to graduate school, or to successful investing careers at our clients.

What You 'll Do:

We are looking for a Research Associate to join the New York office of Bernstein’s premier US IT Hardware and Electric Vehicles Equity Research team, following companies like Apple, Tesla and IBM. You would have the opportunity to work closely in a small team environment with an II Hall of Fame research analyst. If you have a passion for research and are interested in building a long-term career in the investing world, there’s no better place to start than Bernstein. We seek candidates who love to solve problems, analyze data, and are passionate about in-depth fundamental analysis. We offer a unique opportunity to become an industry expert as you work alongside a seasoned veteran who will mentor and develop you.

Our Research Associates play an important role in producing the research Bernstein is famous for: unbiased, independent, thematic, collaborative, data- driven, and always differentiated. You will develop relationships across the investing community and over time become a thought partner to our clients. You will work closely with your team but come to have a high degree of autonomy and independence.

As a Research Associate, you will:

  • Develop sector expertise working with a Senior Analyst who is a seasoned industry expert
  • Become highly proficient at in-depth analysis of your companies, stocks and industry themes
  • Author written research that is famous for its deep industry insights and analytical rigor, including our signature Blackbook product
  • Become adept at financial forecasting, including building detailed forward-looking models
  • Build strong relationships across the investing community, including our sales and trading teams and institutional clients
  • Build a network within your industry including senior management of your companies

We have an outstanding Associate program and make a strong commitment to your development. Our culture is intellectually rigorous, but it is also very collegial and fun. We have robust learning and development programs as well as annual offsite events. We offer a flexible work schedule, but our in-office environment is very active. Our Associates are highly involved in (and often lead) our firm’s cultural initiatives, ranging from health & wellness, community service, mentoring, employee resource groups, social events, and Associate leadership.

Who We Are:

We are a leading global investment management firm offering high-quality research and diversified investment services to institutional clients, retail investors, and private-wealth clients in major markets around the globe. With over 4,000 employees across 57 locations operating in 26 countries and jurisdictions, our ambition is simple: to be the most trusted investment firm in the world. We realize that it's our people who give us a competitive advantage and drive success in the market, and our goal is to create an inclusive culture that rewards hard work.

Our culture of intellectual curiosity and collaboration creates an environment where you can thrive and do your best work. Whether you're producing thought- provoking research, identifying compelling investment opportunities, infusing new technologies into our business or providing thoughtful advice to our clients, we are fully invested in you. If you're ready to challenge your limits and empower your career, join us!
