About the Research Department

Our mission is to understand how the world works — building and compounding our understanding of the timeless cause-and-effect relationships that move global economies and markets. About the Team

The Equity Research team is starting a multiyear journey to explore on a more granular level what drives economies and equity markets. The team offers a unique opportunity to be in early-stage research at a large and established fund as well as join an entrepreneurial environment, shape the business, and drive impact.

About Your Role

The Quantitative Equities Research Associate will work closely with equity portfolio managers and key equity investors building our fundamental and systematic investment strategies. You will focus on the development, implementation, and oversight of our equities risk models and incorporation into our portfolio construction processes across equity strategies. You will be a part of a growing team developing and building the next generation of equities risk understanding and portfolio construction, and will have immediate impact on our equities trading strategies.

You will drive the following responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee equities risk models, and monitor improvement across a variety of equity strategies
  • Work closely with portfolio managers and key investors to understand and improve incorporation of risk metrics into portfolio construction processes
  • Build and develop team and vision across leadership opportunities
  • Stay informed on latest developments and research on new risk models and methodologies

We are looking for candidates with the following minimum qualifications:

  • Degree in mathematics, physical sciences, engineering, or computer science
  • 2-5 years of experience in quantitative risk or equities trading, developing, overseeing, or improving risk models or portfolio construction techniques
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong mathematical and statistical modeling skills (i.e. highly dimensional time-series and cross-sectional datasets)
  • Proficiency in software development (e.g. Scala, Python, Slang)
  • Familiarity with portfolio construction analytics and some exposure to quantitative portfolio management

Physical Requirements

For most of our roles, Bridgewater offers remote flexibility, with most employees required to work from our Westport, CT office twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Compensation Band:

  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $125,000-$225,000. The total compensation package includes variable compensation in the form of a discretionary target bonus.
