Risk Analyst

This individual will work closely with the Head of RVFE Risk and initially have responsibility over creating / running reports, automating processes, building analytical tools and performing ad hoc analyses needed for the Equity Risk Group. The intention is for the responsibilities to gradually transition to full engagement with senior management, ownership of Portfolio Manager relationships from onboarding interviews to ongoing risk analysis, and collaborating with other functional groups within the firm.

Principal Responsibilities

• Initially, prototype and implement risk dashboards and other tools/reports that improve risk transparency over equity product areas at Millennium
• Work on prototyping explanations of P&L drivers
• The role has the potential to grow into full risk coverage of the firm’s strategy in these product areas under the Head of RVFE Risk, including:
• Interviewing prospective PMs and setting up and managing risk guidelines
• Evaluating trade ideas
• Meeting and communicating with PMs on regular basis
• Close monitoring of risk and PNL drivers across the portfolios under coverage responsibility, and direct communication with management when these grow beyond established tolerances

Qualifications/Skills Required

• The candidate should have a quantitative educational background (e.g. statistics, econometrics, finance, data science) or a quantitative employment history of 1-3 years.
• Excellent SQL, R (or Python), and Excel skills a must; familiarity with Tableau a plus.
• Experience working with large datasets (millions of rows) a plus.
• Familiarity with equity markets, or any financial markets, would be helpful, as would prior experience in a risk management group or trading operations.
• High sensitivity to details, strong sense of urgency, and strong organizational skills. Ability to reason through and solve open-ended questions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate with traders and senior management.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $160,000, which is specific to New York and may change in the future. Millennium pays a total compensation package which includes a base salary, discretionary performance bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. When finalizing an offer, we take into consideration an individual’s experience level and the qualifications they bring to the role to formulate a competitive total compensation package.
