Job Description

** WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**

CIBC Asset Management is one of Canada's largest asset management firms with approximately $191 billion in assets under management. We are leaders in providing a broad range of high-quality global investment management solutions to retail and institutional clients.

Under the supervision of the Senior Trader, the Trader, Active Equities , will collaborate with the trading team to execute orders across a range of active investment products. They will contribute to the overall implementation and execution of the Active Equities strategies within client investment policy guidelines. The incumbent will work closely with the investment team and under the supervision of Senior Traders to source and execute trades using a variety of strategies, technologies, and market intelligence. The incumbent will also participate in fulfilling the commission targets in accordance with guidelines from the Commission Allocation Budget Process.

Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

** HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED**

Trading and Best Execution

  • Add value in management of funds through best execution of purchases and sales of securities based on instructions from Portfolio Managers and/or Senior Trader, and also within defined discretionary guidelines.

  • With guidance from Senior Traders, the incumbent will provide market intelligence based on lead use of pre-trade analytics and knowledge of markets and instruments, to PM's, Associates and Analysts to adequately select best counterparties and execution venues.

  • Ongoing effective and timely delivery of market sentiment, trading environment, trading volume and price volatility, news flow, trade flows (liquidity) and Broker Research-Primary and Secondary Markets, to portfolio managers and analysts.

  • Execute basket trades.

Commissions

  • Implement and drive best usage of commission allocation to brokers under guidelines and ranking from Commission Allocation Budget Process.

  • Daily Monitoring of schedule.

  • Provide ongoing rationale for the implementation process.

  • Monitor and Implementation of Soft Dollars and Commission Recapture Programs.

  • Support Trading Operations both Mid Office and Global Ops to achieve Settlement Efficiencies.

Algo Usage

  • Work with trading team to utilize algo’s and algo wheels in situations that would increase process efficiencies.

  • Participate in quarterly reviews with algo providers and best execution team to review performance and look for improvements.

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide feedback, if needed, to the Head of Trading, Head of Equities or CIO.

  • Remain current and up to date on all new Trading trends, systems and happenings impacting the Global Markets.

  • Provide required information for Business Controls review.

  • Participate in Transition Management and Special Projects.

  • Avoid all negative reputational and financial impacts to CAM and CIBC through Risk Management.

  • Minimize all trade errors -ensure escalation to resolution.

  • Strict adherence to trading order procedures, compliance and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure all procedures are adhered to directly and by colleagues.

  • All settlement issues are addressed immediately and monitored and escalated to resolution.

  • Collaborate or lead issues resolution related to trades issues with Middle Office or Global Ops.

  • Add new measures to minimize risk as required.

  • Participate and oversee error log reporting and daily trade checks.

  • Undergraduate or graduate university degree, preferably in Economics, Finance or Commerce.

  • Canadian Security Course (CSC) is required, Derivatives Fundamentals and Options Licensing Course (DFOL) & CFA also an asset.

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in wealth management, trading or closely related field.

  • Experience with algo suites and usage to implement algo wheels and automation processes.

  • Extensive knowledge of the Canadian financial services industry: financial markets, transactions and systems, and regulations.

  • Capacity to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment, make quick decisions and maintain accuracy in a dynamic environment.

  • Proven ability to pay close attention to detail.

  • Good problem-solving skills to resolve team and/or client issues.

  • Experience and knowledge of trading software programs and trading systems such as Bloomberg.

  • Good market sense and passion for financial markets and economic research strategies to interpret market conditions and movement to achieve best execution.

  • Excellent communication skills are imperative. Must be able to disseminate relevant information to the investment team on a timely basis.

  • Demonstrated initiative and strong sense of responsibility and Performance driven.

  • Efficient organizational skills to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous projects.
